The exploitation of MISO gas ambient monitor in agriculture focuses on monitoring methane at biogas plants, where methane sensors at biogas plants are critical for process optimization and facility safety.

Following the visit by Sissel Hansen from NORSØK (Norwegian Centre for Organic Agriculture), Huy Duong Gia and Torbjørn Heltne from NILU visited Tingvoll Farm and NORSØK.

During the visit, two MISO ambient gas monitoring devices and a SenseAir K96 sensor test unit of MISO partner – Senseair were installed at the farm biogas plant. 

In the biogas plant, animal manure from the stables is automatically fed into a digester, also known as a reactor. Organic matter is broken down in the reactor, producing biogas, which is collected from the system. The digested slurry is then pumped from the reactor to an outdoor storage tank. At NORSØK, this tank is covered by a roof structure.  

Sampling tubes from the three sensor systems were installed on two different positions inside the storage tank near the roof. Air samples are drawn through the tubes and into the sensor systems for analysis. To validate the measurements, the NORSØK team will collect manual air samples and analyze them using gas chromatography. 

Collected data from the first few days look promising!
